Moon Tree 1 yr Anniversary Celebration

Moon Tree 1 yr Anniversary Celebration The College of Science and UTA Planetarium will be hosting our 1 Year Anniversary Moon Tree Celebration on Tuesday, April 29th 2-4pm. We will be in the planetarium from 2-2:30pm for a presentation followed immediately with a "Forward To The Moon" show. Then from 3-4pm will be refreshments & activities in the CPB Atrium and photo opportunity with the moon tree. Background:  UTA President, Jennifer Cowley partnered with our Planetarium Coordinator, McKenna Dowd to apply to become an Artemis I Moon Tree Steward in 2024. We received the fantastic news of ownership during the Total Solar Eclipse in April 2024. This marks a tremendous achievement for UTA and the Planetarium. We are now recognized on the NASA website as an official Moon Tree Steward. In a nod to the legacy of Apollo 14, and a celebration of the future of space exploration with NASA’s Artemis Program, a “New generation” of Moon Tree seeds traveled into lunar orbit aboard the Orion spacecraft. The seeds travelled thousands of miles beyond the Moon spending about 4 weeks in space before returning to Earth. NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement partnered with U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Services to fly five species of tree seeds aboard Artemis I as part of a national STEM Engagement and conservation education initiative. UTA received an American Sweetgum tree which is thriving right outside of our Planetarium. From to at UTA Planetarium.
