Mavericks Earn 5-Set Win Against Western Illinois
PEORIA, IL --The UT Arlington volleyball team beat the Western Illinois Leathernecks 3-2 (25-17, 25-15, 23-25, 23-25, 15-11) Saturday at Renaissance Coliseum.
The out-of-conference victory boosted the Mavericks' overall record to 3-0 on the season.
The Mavericks were led by a double-double from Jalie Tritt, who registered 16 kills and 10 digs on the day. Sophie Ocampo also added 17 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Samantha Glenn chipped in for with 25 digs to go with three blocks from Camryn McMinn.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Mavericks jumped out to an early lead, easily winning the first set 25-17. UT Arlington never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Mavericks took over in the second half of the stanza. UT Arlington also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, UT Arlington put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-15 victory in set number two. The Mavericks took the set propelled by a solid showing on the attacking side. UT Arlington registered a .306 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set win. The Mavericks ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The UT Arlington offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Western Illinois avoided an early loss with a third-set victory to make it a 2-1 match. The Mavericks fell in the third set 25-23. UT Arlington trailed by as many as six points as Western Illinois grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was notted up five times before the Leathernecks took over the lead
SET 4 | UT Arlington then dropped their second straight set 25-23 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Mavericks rallied from a seven-point hole at 12-5, but it wasn't enough as Western Illinois hung on to win the set.
SET 5 | UT Arlington needed five sets to seal the match win. After they won the first two sets, Western Illinois responded to take the third and fourth sets before the Mavericks finished off their victory with a 15-11 fifth-set win. The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the fifth set to secure the victory. UT Arlington opened up as much as a five point lead at 12-7 before finishing off the set, totaling nine kills in the set.
