Mavs Fall To Top-Seeded Grand Canyon In WAC Championship Match
DALLAS, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team's (9-10) season comes to a close after falling 4-0 to the top-seeded Grand Canyon Lopes in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament Championship inside the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on the campus of SMU in Dallas on Saturday afternoon.
Nika Novikova and Maria Lucia Araoz-Gosn were both named to the All-Tournament team for their performances throughout the tournament.
Despite dropping the doubles point, the Mavericks fought throughout the match.
The duo of Araoz-Gosn and Novikova claimed the only doubles victory for the Mavs, taking Court 3 by a score of 6-3 over Valentina Del Marco and Peyton Duckett.
The Lopes managed to sweep the match thanks to wins on Courts 2, 3 and 4. On Court 4, Ioana Dumitrescu fell to Dania Deaifi 6-1, 6-2 to put the Lopes up 2-0.
Courts 2 and 3 finished almost at the exact same time with Mialy Ranaivo falling to Bella Crossman 6-3, 6-2 on Court 2 followed by Valeriia Ivanovskaia dropping Court 2 by a score of 6-3, 6-1 to Gala Arangio a few short moments after the conclusion of Court 3.
