Women’s Tennis Set For WAC Tournament As No. 3 Seed Against Utah Tech
ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team (7-9) heads into the Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday, April 17, as the No, 3 seed where they will face the No. 6 seeded Utah Tech Trailblazers at 11 a.m. CT at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The winner of the matchup will take on No. 2 Tarleton State in the semifinals on Friday, April 18, with a spot to the championship match on the line.
Ana Paula Jimenez leads the way for UTA, holding steady with a 7-1 dual match record, all coming on Court 1. Ioana Dumitrescu holds a 6-8 dual match record, all coming from Court 4. The tandem of Jimenez and Dumitrescu have been steady for the Mavs in doubles action, boasting a 7-5 overall record, all coming from Court 2. The duo of Mialy Ranaivo and Valeriia Ivanovskaia carry a 6-6 doubles record, all coming from Court 1.
The Mavericks hold a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series, winning their lone matchup last season 6-1 at the UTA Tennis Center. This will be the first time the two meet in the postseason. In the all-time series, the Mavs have surrendered one point while claiming 13 total points.
SCOUTING UTAH TECH
The Trailblazers carry a 7-12 overall record into the match and are riding a four-match win streak into the WAC Tournament. At neutral sites, Utah Tech holds a 2-4 record. Freshman Maya Inouye leads the charge for the Trailblazers with a 10-5 overall record while the duo of Olivia Bustos and Ana Gutierrez Sampere lead the charge in doubles action with a 5-7 record.
