UTA Eliminated From WAC Tournament
RIVERSIDE, CA - The #7 UT Arlington softball team suffered a 4-1 loss against #6 California Baptist on Wednesday as the Mavericks were eliminated from the WAC Tournament.
Sophomore Abi Gutierrez (5-4) got the ball to start for UT Arlington (24-25) and took the loss. The left-hander went 2.2 innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on two hits, allowing no walks and striking out two. Senior Emilie Hoelscher was a bright spot for the Mavericks, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing one hit.
Offensively, the Mavericks were led by freshman Talia Maldonado, who went 1-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. Junior Alaina Hampton put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-1 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0, the Mavericks first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. UT Arlington got on the board thanks to Maldonado's RBI double with two outs. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.

» UT Arlington pitchers faced 26 Cal Baptist hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out three.

» Cal Baptist was led offensively by senior Kalena Burns, who went 2 for 3 with two doubles and four RBIs.
» Senior Morgan McConnell led the Lancers pitching staff, throwing seven innings of one-run ball.
