Regular Season Finale on Deck For UTA Softball

ARLINGTON - The UT Arlington softball team looks to end the regular season on a high note as the Mavericks will host Seattle U for the final home series of the 2025 season.

The Mavs and Redhawks will play a doubleheader on Friday, May 2 beginning at 3 p.m. CT with the series finale on Saturday, May 3 from Allan Saxe Field. Saturday will serve as Senior Day for UTA's three seniors: Emilie Hoelscher, Nicole Hill and Jessica Adams.

On Friday, the softball team will honor the late Dr. Allan Saxe with a pre-game ceremony at Allan Saxe Field which is scheduled to take place in between UTA's doubleheader at approximately 5 p.m. CT.

A cherished member of the Arlington community, Saxe passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, in Arlington. Born on February 11, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Saxe dedicated his life to education, political science, and community service.

Saxe was a distinguished political scientist and a beloved professor at UTA for 53 years. Some of his notable life moments included the honor of carrying the Olympic torch through Arlington, a testament to his enduring spirit and dedication to his community. His giving nature shone brightly as he passed the torch on, symbolizing his lifelong commitment to helping others.

UTA Softball's home turf of Allan Saxe Field is named in honor of Dr. Saxe, with the facility undergoing renovations for the first time in 1993. The complex was originally built in 1974 as the Arlington Athletic Center.

The 622-seat facility was then rebuilt from the ground up following the completion of the 2014 season. The Mavericks opened the new Allan Saxe Field on Feb. 12, 2015 in the Maverick Invitational against Incarnate Word. UTA cut the ribbon on the clubhouse with a ceremony held on March 21, 2015, with alumni, Maverick Club members and donors taking part in the festivities.

Last month, UTA Softball made history with 1,228 fans in attendance for the Mavericks' home contest against No. 3 Oklahoma on April 1, which showcased the growth softball has experienced over the years and at UTA specifically. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of Dr. Saxe who provided the resources for renovations.
