Mavs Pick Up Dominate Victory Over Prairie View A&M
ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (9-9) returned to the win column behind a dominant 7-0 over Prairie View A&M (2-22) on Wednesday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center.
With the win, the Mavs move their record back to five hundred at 9-9 while moving to 4-3 at home. UTA moves to a perfect 9-0 all-time versus the Panthers. The Mavs start off the month of April strong, starting 1-0 so far.
The Mavericks picked up the doubles point behind thanks to solid victories on Courts 2 and 3. The team of Ian Uraga and Mattia Ricci defeated the tandem of Omari Dudley and Tafari Dudley 6-3 on Court 3 followed by the duo of Yazid Lahjomri and Andres Medus defeating Devyn Gans and Edu Nunez del Prado 6-3 on Court 2 to secure the doubles point for the Mavs.
Moving on to singles play, the Mavs continued their dominance by sweeping all six courts.
Federico Garbero kicked it off by picking up a strong 6-1, 6-0 win on Court 4 over Xavier Peter-Gooding to put the Mavs up 2-0. On Court 6, Ian Uraga defeated Ashton Bunch 6-1, 6-2 to move it 3-0 in favor of the Mavs.
Court 5 was the next to wrap up, which saw Yazid Lahjomri defeat Devyn Gans 6-2, 6-3 to secure the victory for the Mavs. The two teams would play the rest of the match through. Mattia Ricci defeated Ethan Boswell 6-0, 6-4 on Court 3 while Andres Medus defeated Edu Nunez del Prado.
The lone game that went into the all deciding third set saw Pedro Sasso defeat Abdulraheem Isa 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 (10-2) to earn the 7-0 sweep for UTA.
UTA will be back in action on Thursday, April 3, for their final home game when they welcome WAC foe Abilene Christian to the UTA Tennis Center. Join us as we celebrate our seniors with a special ceremony starting at 1:40 p.m. CT while first serve is set for 2 p.m. CT.
