ARLINGTON, Texas --An explosive offensive output was not enough for UT Arlington on Friday. The Mavericks plated five runs, but could not hold the Seattle U Redhawks at bay, and were bested 10-5.
Sophomore Nicholas Robb (3-6) got the ball to start for UT Arlington (18-31, 10-13) and took the loss. Junior Zac Colletti was a bright spot for the Mavericks, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.2 shutout innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
In the batter's box, the Mavericks were paced by senior Parker Airhart, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Xander McAfee put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple. Junior Jake Martinez also chipped in for UT Arlington, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 5-0, the Mavericks first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. UT Arlington scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Airhart.
The Redhawks expanded their lead to 10-2 before the Mavericks offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the ninth. which brought the score to 10-5 in favor of the Redhawks. The Mavericks were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
