Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Teams Head To College Station For NCAA South Central Regional
BRYAN – COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams return to action Friday, Nov. 15, morning for the NCAA South Central Regional meet at the Watts Cross Country Course hosted by Texas A&M.
The gun goes off at 9 a.m. for the women's 6k race, followed by the men's 10k race at 10 a.m.
The blue and orange gear up for their last meet in the great state of Texas for the 2024 season, as they go up against a stacked field with qualifications to the NCAA Championships on the line.
History was made at last year's regionals as Matro Jepkemboi claimed the best individual finish in program history after finishing third overall and punching her ticket to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The women finished eighth overall while the men finished ninth overall.
Last time out at the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, the men and women both finished sixth overall with Jepkemboi leading the charge for the women, finishing ninth overall to claim All-WAC First Team honors. Patrick Estes led the way for the men, finishing 20th overall and taking home All-WAC Second Team honors.
The women started off the season with a fourth place team finish at the John McKenzie Invitational hosted by TCU where Winnie Kipsang paced the Mavs for a third place finish. At the home meet Gerald Richey Invitational, the women earned a podium finish when they finished third as a team in a meet that saw the return of Jepkemboi in her first race of the season where she finished second overall. At the historic Cowboy Jamboree, the women finished eighth as a team.
The men started off the season with two podium finishes, taking third at the John McKenzie Invitational and claiming second at the home meet Gerald Richey Invitational. At the home meet, Jackson Cichon led the way for the Mavs with a fourth place finish. Estes posted a top 10 finish at the John McKenzie Invitational, finishing ninth. At the historic Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State, the men posted a team finish of ninth.
