College of Engineering hosts career fair for students to explore opportunities

Clad in professional attire, students packed into the Maverick Activities Center on Thursday for the Engineering Career Fair, looking to make a lasting impression on potential employers. Hosted twice a year by the College of Engineering, the fair brings companies and employers to engage with students, providing them with networking and job-searching opportunities. Carole Coleman, engineering career readiness coordinator, said this semester’s event hosted 164 employers. “I encourage students to be active and participate with the employers that are willing to come to campus,” Coleman said. “Try to learn about the employers that are going to be here, so you're better educated when you talk to them.” Biomedical engineering junior Nora Alsharif said she attended the fair to see what companies were interested in her and enjoyed seeing all her future opportunities. “I think it’s very helpful, especially for those who are about to graduate because a lot of the companies are interested in seniors,” Alsharif said. Similarly, Shriyukta Ram, graduate computer science student, said she found the event helpful, having spoken to six or seven employers. “The event was mainly to connect with the industry professionals and get a good opportunity for summer internships,” Ram said. @satwika_2001 news-editor.shorthorn@uta.edu
