Hongtei Eric Tseng has become the first professor hired under UTA's RISE 100 initiative. RISE 100, the Recruiting Innovative Scholars for Excellence initiative, aims to bring 100 new tenure-system faculty to the university over the next few years and is expected to grow UTA's research-engaged faculty by 15%, according to previous Shorthorn reporting. President Jennifer Cowley announced this initiative at September’s State of the University address. Tseng will join the university as a distinguished professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Greg Abbott that aids public Texas colleges in attracting distinguished researchers. According to UTA’s website, Tseng received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University and his Masters of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Through this, UTA plans to hire over 100 of these faculty members come 2026, according to the website. UTA aims to hire scholars with expertise in areas that will make an impact in Texas and the Metroplex, supporting the growth and development of the region's economy, society and culture. @wall035203 news-editor.shorthorn@uta.edu
