Now in its fifth year, the Univision Tu Futuro Scholarship has been awarded to another determined and resilient incoming freshman at The University of Texas at Arlington.
Jorge Lopez, a senior at Paris High School, was presented with the scholarship, which covers the cost of an undergraduate degree at UTA.
Lopez plans to study business and management, with the hopes of combining both of his passions—real estate and cattle—in his future career.
“This scholarship is a big blessing. I have always wanted to go to college, and being awarded this scholarship will really help my parents. I feel very blessed for that,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the college experience. I think it’ll open up a lot of doors and opportunities to grow.”
In addition to the Tu Futuro scholarship, Lopez was gifted an additional $1,000 from the Erika Salter Law Firm, an account with $500 from Credit Union of Texas, a $500 gift certificate from Nebraska Furniture Mart, a new laptop from Lisinski Law Firm and an iPad from Nissan Regional.
Since its initial launch in 2021, Univision Tu Futuro Scholarship has granted eight Mavericks the life-changing scholarship. This year, three recipients will graduate from UTA—Ana Gonzalez in May 2025 and Yalitza Gonzalez and Maria Belen Cruz Garay in December 2025.
“Univision has been a champion for students, using its platform to uplift and support the next generation. And thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, another Maverick will now have the opportunity to pursue his dreams without limits,” said President Jennifer Cowley.
As the area’s leading Spanish-language station group, TelevisaUnivision is committed to aiding the growth and development of UTA students and inspiring them to make an impact in their communities.
“Here at TelevisaUnivision, we are proud to serve an amazing community and help advance and empower people like our Tu Futuro scholars,” said Mark Masepohl, president and regional manager of TelevisaUnivision. “I know when students come to UTA, they’re getting the most supportive environment. It’s with the combined efforts of our partners that we’re able to continue nurturing this program and keep making students’ dreams come true.”
